The whole idea of picnic seems to be disappearing in Singapore. Hence, Gem and I decided that we would begin on our little start up to revive this little culture of going for picnics! Check out https://beauteaq.wordpress.com/ or http://60bpm.blogspot.sg/ !
It has been awhile since Gem and I met up since holidays started. We have been busy with our own work! For me, I have been helping out at my friend's new gym venture! It is finally opened. Shall show you guys around with some photos in the next post.
Hence, last week, Gem and i went for a PICNIC at Marina Barrage! It was real fun. However, it wasn't fun when heat exhaustion decided to pay me a visit. So, remember to hydrate yourself with water and sodium! Here are some of the photos to do the talking!

Cycling at East Coast Park in Singapore

One year on.. It was really good to see that the class that have grown in one way or another. I’m glad I dropped by and cycled with them despite the slight flu because the fresh air sort of made me feel much better. I missed them so much and it was even more heart warming to hear them remember my name and say they miss me too. The sweetest class ever. After an entire semester of studying, I finally got some exercise. So here’s where I usually rent my bikes from… They usually charge a price lower than other shops in East Coast Park.
Shop Name: 12 Cycle or 1 2 Cycle
Address: 80 Marine Parade Central #01-786/788, Singapore 440080                                        Rates: $8/hr (Usual promotion: Rent 1 hour Free 2 hours)  i.e. $8 for 3 hours!
How to get there?
1)Walk to the side entrance of Parkway Parade.
2) Cross the small road towards Parkway Centre.
3) Continue walking straight past the hawker centre towards the HDB flats area.
4) Turn left when u see Blk 79 and FCBC.
5) Walk straight and you will see the bike shop next to Philip’s Investor’s centre!
6) Rent a bike, turn left and you will see a sheltered underpass not too far away. Go ahead and go through the underpass and you can start cycling! ( i think it’s Area C if you are going from the park )

If you’re wondering if I am sponsored for this post.. The answer is nope! Good things must share right?
It was a fun a fulfilling afternoon. Hope all of them will stay happy as they are and never let anything bring them down!
Thank you for having me there Love you all 2E2! <3

Flying to Melbourne

This is way overdue. Better late than never right? :D After so many years of my life, it was my first time taking Singapore Airlines (SIA). I’ve always had the impression that budget airlines will always be cheaper but it’s not true! Got my air ticket to Melbourne through the Super Deals of SIA. So it costs between SGD600-SGD700. Will write more about the air tickets booking experiences soon!
Anyways, I flew to Melbourne alone on Christmas morning! It’s my first Christmas away from my family. But I was warmly welcomed by the crew and a friendly neighbour seated next to me. The airplane was decked with boughs of hollies!

Being the foodie or maybe glutton that I am, of course, when the first thing that I will look at is the food and beverages menu that they provide! Was joking with my mummy that they will serve turkey since it’s Christmas day. And, much to my surprise, there was TURKEY! but of course, that is for lunch. So i had to wait for breakfast first. Heh.
Continental Breakfast - 1) Fruit Appetiser 2) Assorted Breakfast Rolls 3) Hot Beverage 4) Drinks

Its like having a feast whenever I’m on the plane. Love this the most so far! They even had surprise christmas cookies! Had double portion =X
Before landing!
                   Before landing!
Before landing, remember to fill up the mandatory declaration form for entering any country, this time Australia!
So after I have landed, I learnt that with Singapore Passport (Same for some other countries, can’t remember which), you can go through the custom through the electronic customs clearance instead of lining up with the rest of the crowd. The officers are really helpful when you do not know what to do! Got through customs really quickly without any problem.
Getting an Australian Number (Pre-paid with Data)
First thing I did was to get my Australian Pre-paid number with data so that I can contact my friends and have access to resources anytime. There is a custom local telecommunications shop ‘OPTUS’ that sells different prepaid plan that I think is affordable and worth getting if you are planning to stay beyond 7 days! I got a $30 plan that offered me unlimited sms/mms, free talk time and 500 MB of free data. They have promotions such as 1.5gb of free data for the same amount.
IMG_63611) Take your pick or head to the counter. Tell them your needs.
2) Present your passport, get your number.
3) Pay and activate your card.
4) Use it!
If you want to know more before you go, visit their website! http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/prepaid
And tadah, called my friend and I headed to my Airbnb lodging! More to come in the next few posts about the places that I visited and things I ate!

Visiting Melbourne! (Pre-trip To Know, To Prepare)

G'day! I visited the land of down under for the 2nd time last year. However, it was my 1st time going to Melbourne, Victoria and it was for a wedding of my good friend. Spent a good 2 weeks over there. Of course, before talking about my trip, this post is dedicated to Pre-visiting the wonderful capital of Victoria!

1) Applying for Visa
As mentioned in the previous traveling post , you always need to check for visa requirements. This is very important when you visit Australia.

If your passport is from: Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, Brunei, USA, South Korea, Hong Kong or Japan.

You simply have to visit: http://www.eta.immi.gov.au/  to apply for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) for AUD$20 so that you will be permitted to enter the country. The approval is almost immediate and you will get a reference number. Do it at least 1 week before you fly ! Not exactly a risk-taker here. There are cheaper alternatives if you do it through alternatives for around SGD$12.
For the other countries, you will have to apply for an eVisitor or Visitor Visa. Check THIS out.

2) Useful Apps of Melbourne, Victoria!

Getting Around!
If you are planning on taking public transport here are a few useful apps that I would recommend:

You will need to get a Myki Smart Card once you land at Melbourne Airport from the Myki machine at Terminal 2, 3 and 4.

My Top Choice of Transport App because it covers everything:
- *Public Transport Victoria App (Free)
Journey planner and schedules for trains, trams and buses throughout Victoria (You can plan for specific timings. They are usually pretty punctual.)

- Others: Train Trapper, TramTracker, Tram Hunter, SilverTop (Taxi), 13CABS (Taxi)
I do not recommend Taxis as they are really costly. You would want to spend more on food and shopping! :)

Things to do and eat!
This is a good starters app if it's your first time in Melbourne and have got no idea what to do and eat. It will practically provide you with the main have-to-go attraction in the city. Like the main shopping malls, popular sites, festivals & events etc.

-* Melbourne Official City Guide (Free)
General things to see and do in Melbourne.

Arts Related Events & Festival
If you are an artsy fartsy lover like Gem and I, then do download these apps if you have no time to research on the festival that you want to attend.

-* Melbourne Fringe Festival (Free)
The different festivals that is happening at Melbourne and the emerging arts!

-Others: Melbourne International Film Festival

History & Heritage
Yes! I love the nature, the arts, the history and culture of the places I travel. So history lovers or even curious tourists. Here's an app that will probably bring you to special places such as the Olympic Pool Stadium, Old Customs House, Shrine of Rememberance, Churches... You name it, we have it. You won't get to see them when you are with a tour group! TURN ON YOUR LOCATION AND YOU CAN BEGIN DISCOVERING! :)

-*Vic Heritage (Free)

3) Additional Things to Bring Along (Regardless of Season)
- Windbreaker (best if it's waterproof!)
- Jacket (waterproof and windproof)
- Umbrella
- Sunscreen

The weather in Melbourne is temperamental. Yes. You can experience 4 SEASONS in a day. No kidding.  However, be prepared so that you will not let it spoil your traveling plans!

4) Research on the Cafes and Coffeeshops
Besides the commonly known Seattle for its coffee culture, I must say that the all around the city, they are serving really awesome coffee. You will be overwhelmed by the number of coffeeshops or cafes around. From latte, cappuccino to cold brew. Don't worry! I will cover some of the popular ones that I visited in the next few posts about Melbourne :D

5) FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD research
Honestly, due to the European Settlement, Gold Rush Immigration and Post-war Immigration, and the welcoming of migrants in the recent years,  Melbourne is a place that consists of authentic cuisines from almost all over the world.  (Well, my prof. who is from Melbourne sort of mentioned this too!)
Let me list some: Lebanese, Greek, Vietnamese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Turkish, Middle Eastern, Indian, Maltese, Bosnian, Chinese ...........

However, they are located in different areas of Melbourne, from North to South, East to West. If you are a foodie like me, then you probably wouldn't mind traveling. Heh! But oh oh. Do take note of their FUSION FOOD as well!

They usually have reliable reviews from customers if you want to know which restaurants tastes good. \

SAVE YOUR STOMACH FOR YUMMY FOOD!!

6) Football, cricket and sports culture

Well, I don't know much about this, but I heard that they have a really strong sports culture especially in football and cricket. Let me know more about this through maybe an email so that I can update?

7) Learn some of their Funky Slangs!

That's all I have for now! Look out for the latest post! Oh yes. This is going to go onto http://60bpm.blogspot.com  . Check us out too!

Have a good one! Hoo Roo!

The Betterfield Cafe (Waterloo Street, Bugis/Bras Basah MRT)

This is a re-post written by me from http://60bpm.blogspot.com:

Here's what we ordered:
The Eggs: Salmon Avocado - $18
Smoked salmon, guacamole, spinach, hollandaise, mesciun salad, caviar
The portion is larger than what the usual cafe offers. I must say I loved how the taste wasn't overpowering but a balance between the sauce, eggs, smoked salmon and the charcoal bun! According to Gem, it is pretty savoury!

The Eggs: The Eggs Benedictine - $14
leg ham, spinach, hollandaise, mesciun salad
We all agreed that if you were to bring your parents along, this basic eggs benedictine will be the best order for them! Nothing too fancy and yet tastes good.

The Eggs: Truffled Prosciutto- $18
prosciutto, truffle mayo, mushroom fricassee, poached eggs
Once again, the portion is huge! I was so full at the end of it. This would be the pick if you love mushroom! There is a special after taste from the truffle mayo which we love. This is one dish that I will order when I return next! (Well, maybe after I tried everything on the menu. heh)

Pesto Mushroom Aglio Olio Set with Soup of the Day - $10 nett
(U.P. $16 )
basil pesto, mushroom, spaghetti, garlic, chilli
Unlike the usual Aglio Olio we have, this dish isn't oily and surprised us with the unique combination of basil pesto and mushroom. Yummy! We were lucky to be there when they were having their soft launch set promotion. Hence, the $10!

Cream of Tomato

The Ultimate Truffle Fries - $12
garden fries, parsley, white truffle oil, black truffle paste, grade padano
In my opinion, this truffle fries will cater to all who love and do not like the taste of truffle. When it first enter our mouths, there was just a slight tinge of truffle oil, almost undetectable. However, when I dipped the them into the truffle pesto mayo, I couldn't stop. We had to request for another portion of the sauce! It totally matches well in bringing out the taste of the fries with truffle.

Look out for the signage!

It is a small cosy cafe. Suitable for holding gatherings and small events.

Will we return again?
YES!
